Agile language for 2d game prototypes? -

occasionally ( read: when fiancé allows ) prototype different game or game-like ideas have. use java or c# (not xna yet) because languages have practice with. learn more suited agile development; language in easier knock out quick prototypes.

at job have been working looser (weak/dynamically typed) languages, python , groovy, , think similar fit looking for.

so, question is: what languages (and framework/engine) rapidly developing prototypes of 2d game concepts?

a few notes:

  • i don't need blazing fast bitcrunching performance. in case prefer ease of development on performance.
  • i'd use language healthy community, me means fair amount of maintained 3rd party, libraries.
  • i'd language cross-platform friendly, work on variety of different operating systems , portable minimum effort.
  • i can't imagine myself using language out decent options debugging , editor syntax highlighting support.

note: if aware of java or c# library/framework think streamlines producing game prototypes open learning new languages too

python + pyglet or cocos2d

i used pyglet prototype iphone game finished. joy work with, , rapid.
